No journey to Cambodia is complete without a visit to the iconic Angkor Wat – a monumental temple complex shrouded in legend and embraced by the jungle. Abandoned over 500 years ago, the temple ruins now stand peacefully among vines and trees, offering an unforgettable and magical experience.

Tucked between palm groves on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand lies a serene hidden gem – Koh Rong Island. Unlike the bustling resorts of Pattaya, Koh Rong remains quiet and untouched, with soft white beaches and crystal-clear waters that make it the perfect tropical retreat.

DAY 5: SIEMREP - TRADITIONAL KHMER BOAT RIDE ON TONLE SAP LAKE (B/-/-)

Breakfast in the hotel. Next traditional Khmer boat ride on Tonle Sap lake

The second name of Tonle Sap Lake is “Big Lake”, because it is the largest lake in Southeast Asia. The maximum depth of the lake is 9 meters. But these figures are valid only for the rainy season, when the lake is filled with water and increases in area by almost six times compared to the dry season, and the depth of the lake at this time rarely exceeds 1 meter. Such a changeable character of the lake is due to the river of the same name flowing from it, which in the rainy season changes the direction of the flow and turns back, filling it with water. And because of the same large-scale changes in size and the coastline periodically shifting for many kilometers around the lake and on it, an unusual life was formed - many floating villages.

After all, thanks to the constantly changing water level, people can grow rice on fertile soil after the water level drops in the dry season, get shellfish and fish all year round. And in order to keep up with the periodically moving coastline, the locals decided not to constantly move their houses, but simply build them on the water. So here the floating villages were formed, which attract tourists here.

The “foundations” of the houses of the “lake dwellers” in the floating villages are a cluster of boats, rafts, barrels connected to each other and various other watercraft that simply defy description. They are located not only dwellings, but also small plots of land where local residents manage to grow vegetables and keep pets. There is a restaurant for tourists, also on the water, a small observation deck. Floating crocodile farm is a mandatory item of the excursion program. But crocodiles do not swim on the lake, the local fauna is quite harmless.

Next visit "Les Artisans d'Angkor - Chantiers Ecoles", a center that creates a unique collection of decorative sculptures, lacquer ware, silk and silk paintings.

In the evening return to the hotel. Relaxation.
